Art for the Living Room

When a designer starts a project, they typically get a feel for the clients and how the room will be used. They have to figure out what the clients already have, what they need and how to mix the two.

If you don't have a designer (like a lot of people), this is where you should start! Take a moment to walk around your room. Think about the following: the feel of the room- sophisticated vs relaxed living, kid-friendly vs adults-only, entertaining vs sip coffee by myself.  These are all great starting points that a designer would ask, to figure out what you will need for the space. Once you have those questions answered, it's time to figure out your investment pieces for the room and budget friendly options too!

If the budget allows, a larger "statement art" piece is always a great investment for a room. Especially a high-traffic area that will be seen right as you walk in the door. Maybe over the fireplace, sofa or a piece of furniture! For instance, this client wanted to keep the colors muted and add a little pop of color (coral) that was already in her space. Together we talked about colors, size and how the space was used. This is their "formal" living room right as you walked through their front door. The space had elements of both old and new mixed together which allowed me to use different textures and lines on their piece. The final result... a relaxed painting leaning on the fireplace ready for cocktails with friends by the fire!

Don't be scared to invest in art... It usually makes the space all come together!
